Is it time for your dental check-up and cleaning?  A prophylaxis, or cleaning, is a very important information-gathering appointment. At this time, our dental hygienists will update your medical history and discuss any dental concerns that you may have.

The hygienist will update your x-rays and screen for periodontal disease by checking your bone and pocketing around each tooth. She will then do an oral cancer screening and look for any abnormalities in the oral area.

While the hygienist is cleaning your teeth, she will assess your current restorations, gum tissues and look for any areas of decay. The tartar and bacteria, at or below the gumline, is removed and the teeth are polished. She will also give you feedback on your brushing and flossing techniques, point out problem areas and give you suggestions for improved home care. She may use the intraoral camera to show you areas of concern.

Once the hygienist has completed the treatment, Dr. Sprout will come into the operatory to do an exam. The hygienist will communicate any findings and questions that you may have. Because of our high standards of care, this appointment is scheduled for 60 minutes for an adult and 40 minutes for children.
